VESECTOMY

No Needle, No Scalpel Vasectomy

The  No Needle, No Scalpel Vasectomy uses an advanced technique to anaesthetise the scrotum and vas deferens, which make the vasectomy procedure essentially painless. The procedure utilises a high pressure jet injector which sprays anaesthesia through and around the skin.

Pros of Vasectomy

  • Permanent Contraception – A vasectomy is a highly effective long-term birth control solution.
  • Highly Effective – The procedure is 99.8% effective in preventing pregnancy.
  • No More Children – Provides peace of mind for those who have completed their family.
  • Minimally Invasive – A minor procedure performed under local anaesthetic.
  • Safe Procedure – Very low risk of complications with advanced techniques.
  • Quick Recovery – Most men can return to work the same day, provided no heavy lifting is involved.
  • Cost-Effective – Eliminates the ongoing cost of contraception, such as condoms.
  • Psychological Benefits – Can relieve a partner of the responsibility of birth control, leading to reduced stress and a more relaxed mood.
  • Improved Sexual Satisfaction – Eliminates the fear of unintended pregnancy, leading to greater relaxation and potentially a more fulfilling sexual experience for both partners.
  • Reversible Option – While vasectomy is intended to be permanent, reversal is possible, with a success rate of 60–95%. However, reversal costs start at $5,000.

Cons of Vasectomy

  • Potential Change of Mind – Some men may regret the decision, often due to changes in personal or social circumstances.
  • Not Immediately Effective – Contraceptive protection is not instant; it takes approximately three months and 20 ejaculations to ensure no residual sperm remain.
  • Temporary Side Effects – Mild discomfort, scrotal bruising, or swelling may occur but typically subside within a few days.

Your Consultation

I will discuss the procedure in person to determine the suitability of vasectomy for you.

I will go over your health history as it relates to vasectomy.

The Procedure

The procedure is simple, taking only about 15 to 20 minutes and is virtually pain-free.

Local anaesthetic is applied using an advanced technique to anaesthetise the scrotum and the vas deferens as demonstrated.

Following the local anaesthetic, a small single opening (6 mm) is made in the centre of the scrotum without using a scalpel. This opening will close spontaneously and heals completely without any suturing.

Through that opening, each vas is drawn into it one at a time and then divided.

After dividing the vas, the lumen of the vas end going to the urethra is cauterised, and this end is kept inside the vas sheath (fascial interposition).
The other vas end, which goes to the testicle, is kept outside the vas sheath using small permanent inert clips. These clips are chemically inactive and inert, do not get felt by patients, and do not interfere with any future MRI radiology to any parts of the body.

Keeping the vas end which comes from the testicle outside the vas sheath is called the open-ended technique. This technique minimises post-procedure pain as there will be no back pressure on the testicles.

This open-ended technique minimises the failure rate as the chance of recanalization (reunion of the two vas ends) is minimal or negligible.

After The Procedure

Can return to work the same day as long as no heavy lifting is involved.

No sports or heavy lifting for 48 hours.
